Training in a team or independently can be a good time, but unfortunately not for a long time. Don’t get us wrong, some athletes have been known for having truly long-lasting careers, such as:
- George Blanda played for the NFL for 26 years as a quarterback and kicker.
- Gymnast Oksana Chusovitina is still competing at 46 — she had already won an Olympic gold medal by the time some of her present-day competitors were born.
However, these are all truly phenomenal and rare cases where the need to compete wasn’t inspired only by a financial goal. Having said that, finances still lurk around the corner and we can’t avoid asking ourselves the question: “What will we do if we need a break at some point or if we break something at another point?
From 2011 through 2014, an estimated 8.6 million sports- and recreation-related injury episodes occurred annually. If you’re worried about what will happen if you fall in that statistic, don’t be, ’cause no matter what happens, you will have options.
